Controlled Chaos...2012 devil!

original oil that sold to help rescue
(one of my favorite all time models)

Life is a challenge for most of us on our best days.
We share that commonality.
I am so fortunate and know it because I have had a great support system around me for my whole life.
Not everyone has that advantage so that alone makes you feel blessed.
2012 has been one Hell of Ride so far.
It has had the Highest Highs and the Lowest Lows.
I have learned so much by all the changes and experiences, and some of them have been first time ones at that, for better or worse.
I can best describe 2012 as
The understanding of it, the utilization of ways to manage it or just
functionally approach it, and ALL of the circumstances of change this year,
has served me well.
It is a great teacher. I am an attentive student.

No complaints here at all...
and I just want to acknowledge that fact.
I have updated my home page on my
to reflect the fact that I am not painting until futher notice.
I have received some emails for commission requests that remain on hold.
(of course I do NOT begrudge anyone wanting to go forward with other artists if they do NOT want to wait for a future time for me!)
I have no idea just how long this period will last.
The general plan is to reevaluate in 2013.
Lizzie is doing very well...much better than we hoped for and that is something that has its own shelf-life. Things can change in an instant.
Metacam and Tramadol are doing a fine job for her at the moment...ALONG WITH
really careful care and planning and total focus on our parts (Leo is the biggest help with this)...and anyone following along on Facebook gets our updates daily...HA HA! (you know who YOU are!)
so we march on
On August 24th she will be 14 years old.
We are so thankful for every moment...from the waiting for her to be born, to being chosen for us (we hoped it was HER and it was) by the Havilands at Deltalyn Dalmatians in Rehoboth, Ma. to all the fun and love we have enjoyed for all those 14 years.
Appreciating one day at a time with Lizzie is just fine with us.
We are making the most of the time given us...
the adventure continues.
More to follow!
Peace & Cheers,

(pic taken May 2012)
She was telling me to lets get moving and go have a snack...
"Stop painting, Mom...let's go!"
Well here we are again...I seem to be putting Art on hold once more but I need a little time to see to Lizzie's daily needs. She will be our 14 yr old on August 24th.
She came to live with us forever on the day she turned 8 weeks old. I have pictures of her from the day she was born. We waited a couple of years for her after we lost our previous liver dalmatian Abby to the Bridge at age 14.
Lizzie is doing ok at the moment. Not used to seeing her move so slowly...not used to seeing her getting up gingerly from naps. The one thing that has not changed at all is her appetite. And once she is up and moving she is doing ok. Prances around in a little bit of a limp at times. Loves to take a few turns around her yard and bark at whatever she thinks needs barking at. Mooches as many bites of anything edible as much as ever!
These are the days that we never want to think about coming, as time winds down and age catches up. Anyone who knows us (Leo is as bad or worse) knows our animals are just people with fur to us. Lizzie, like Emmi, Dinah, Abby, Baylis and Sesby before her, has had the best life with more love than you think your heart can give. But these times are not easy...
We have an appointment for a physical and eval to see if they have something that may make her time a little better. She gets lots of love and attention and we will do whatever is the best for her.
Next Tuesday she will see the same Vet (Dr Cathy Grossi) who gave such wonderful care to Emmi last year and helped us have an extra couple of months with her.
She was so compassionate and kind to us (I am always a mess and a challenge for any Vet who helps us! I find it so ironic that I could give the kind of care and support as a nurse to people in the most dire times...and am a train wreck when it comes to my animals!!!) Dr Grossi is so down to earth and sensible.
In the meantime we are doing all kinds of supportive things and taking it a day at a time.
Lots of hugs and kisses and even more attention, if that is possible.
For Daily Painters Gallery that I post once a week for ART HELPING ANIMALS I will repost older unsold work. That is once a week on Saturdays. I am not sure if I will be in the studio for the next few weeks to see how it goes.  And then we'll take it from there.
Good thoughts for Lizzie (and us) are always so appreciated.
We share these times....which is why when I paint memorials and portraits for others and especially the Bridge Pet paintings, I share the losses and the connection of these pets and their people very personally.
Because we have been there walking in those shoes, as well.
These are days we wish would never get here...they always do in their own time.
I shall return again with new work but for now it is
"Lizzie time."
thanks for letting me ramble!

10 yrs ago I "met" this DAL PAL, Jay Cannaday on the old AOL DALPALs message board...Jay has a huge heart and was fostering dogs and rehoming as many as his own home would allow long before it was fashionable. He has driven thousands of miles to help with transports and save dogs from many a kill shelter on hhis own dime.  Imagine if he could give those transports a real boost in this VAN pictured below?!
He did not ask me to blog this but I think we could go a long way to help him if you could VOTE daily and just share this story so the good guy could win for a change.
...everyone asks for votes on CUTE ANIMALS PICS ... Please VOTE for JAY and THE LONDON SANCTUARY and the really great work he does helping save the discarded and abused dogs from kill shelters. Please Read below!  Thanks in Advance.

PLEASE CLICK AND VOTE! TLS could SO use this van!

"Artist's rendering"... The London Sanctuary is vying to win a Chrysler Ram cargo van like this for use as a transport vehicle. I photoshopped in the TLS graphics as an incentive! Your votes... (daily!) can help them win, and it's easy. Just visit the link, click, and you're done. Oh, and SHARE too! This van would make rides to adoption events, the vet's office, and foster homes so much easier, plus would really help TLS's efforts to get dogs to and from other states. Jay Cannaday and the TLS volunteer pack thank you. VOTE HERE:

The Reason

Wading In
new oil on canvas
with 100% donation
(Meet Harrison below)
Today that is just what I did...I went wading into the story of a Dalmatian boy
who desperately needs help.
I was thinking about something the other day...I heard someone on TV say "There is a REASON why she is here in this life..." it was in reference to a very sad situation that the person has been born into, but the idea was that even in adversity there is a REASON for her being here greater than the difficulties.
I think there is a reason I can paint a bit. Why I was drawn to do came out of nowhere as these things do. It was an innate ability that I had from childhood. It was the way I was wired I guess. No one in my family had the interest or inclination to make art.
It's a nice past could do it quietly at home and never show it. You don't have to succeed or fail.  But there was a REASON for me to have this knack. I believe it was to use it in a way that made it so much more than itself. Art that helps. So you need to put it out there. And while I was never going to be a "master" or create world famous art I was going to find a way to do my art my own way and love it or leave it, use it to help animals in need. If a painting resonates with someone it ends up helping and that to me is success in spades!
So that brings me to this painting above.
I am offering it for sale with the entire amount going to help "HARRISON"
he is a Dalmatian that was found injured in Houston TX June 17th , put in a shelter and a message was sent out as "Urgent Medical Rescue Needed" it was for Rescue Only to spring him from the shelter and get him medical help.
Expensive medical help as Harrison has multiple fractures in his pelvis and a dislocated hip.
He was pulled from that shelter by someone who helps rescue but is NOT "a rescue" so he was given help by DALMATIAN RESCUE of SOUTHERN FLORIDA. They helped make arrangements to champion this dog's cause and get him some funding to help with his upcoming surgery.
Many hands can make miracles happen.
DRSF has set up a CHIP-IN to help him. If everyone could donate the price of a cup of fancy coffee or ANY amount they can afford it would help with this vet expense.
Or it can be sent directly to the vet.
Information is all on the Dalmatian Rescue Site.
Please pass this info on to anyone who might be interested in helping.

I am in Massachusetts, Harrison and his main rescuer Shelby (bless you!) are in Texas, The Dal rescue is in Florida...It doesn't matter where you are located, we are all in the same place when we stand together heart-to-heart.

Easel Update: Work in Progress...take a look!

Pepper Pot
(newest work in progress)
This is not a great shot but it is also in the early stage of work.
Small 8x10 still life...enjoyable challenge for me.
This is on a panel.

Summer Wind
(almost finished)
oil on canvas mounted panel
I posted this on Facebook yesterday after finishing for the day.
Nice response to it. husband said WOW...that is always a nice comment coming from him. Appreciated. :o)
This painting will help Bristol Friends of Animals Shelter, Bristol RI
should it eventually sell when I post it finished.
It is a pleasure for me to base paintings on Emmi as my model and still feel the connection to her as I paint.
Sometimes I just use her pose, sometimes her coloring, sometimes a true representaion.
The main thing is even from the Bridge she is still an inspiration and a practical helper to those animals in need still trying to just get a chance at a life by being rescued and rehomed. The sale of my artwork of her helps to do that.
All my work in 2012 that sells goes to Charity 100%
There are paintings still available for sale to help rescue.

I will be updating that1 site this week.

A Bed of Roses ~ Calico Cat, new painting for rescue

A Bed Of Roses
oil on canvas mounted panel
Available to help Tabby's Place A Cat Sanctuary rescue.
100% donation goes straight to the rescue.
email to purchase:
paypal welcome.
This painting was presented as a work in progress last week, now it is ready to go.
The colors are stunning in person. I am not quite sure the monitor is capturing them very well.
It is an ultra smooth canvas mounted panel. So easy to frame in a standard size with shallow depth!
I will be posting this for ART HELPING ANIMALS on
DAILY PAINTER's GALLERY tomorrow, June 9th.
If you want to snag it before it posts just email me.
I enjoy painting cats and hope this kitty helps some cats in need.
TABBY'S PLACE is an awesome rescue and deals with some medically challenged cats.  You can visit their site here:
Tabby's Place Link
they do wonderful work.
Thanks so much for helping artist's help homeless animals.

On the Easel...update... WIPS!

Here we go! this was work from Saturday June 2nd. Take a peek!

This new garden painting has a way to is much sunnier in person than this image.
I am debating on adding some animals seems to tell me it might work. Unsure of that direction at this point...I am letting it evolve. It is oil on masonite panel 9x12. So far I am happy with it.

These Asian Apple-Pears were quite delicious...yes, I ate them. Shared them with Lizzie in fact. LOL.  It is about 3/4's done...this was the second pass. I Love still life and would paint it endlessly but I admit...I do love painting animals because of the life in their eyes so I try to mix it up. This painting is actually high key light and in the final pic I hope to get a better image. But this one I love and could live with it if I have to!
wink wink
It is 9x12 oil on a canvas panel.

This white rose is another of those great exercises for me. When I paint subjects like this I get totally lost in the work. It is very much a meditation. I spend a lot of time making minute and subtle color decisions that will make or break the painting. Going for the inner glow, the labyrynth of the petals, the mandela of the rose. White roses, my favorite, represent the spiritual element.
This is oil on Ampersand panel.
So that is what I have worked on so far this weekend and today is another day of painting. New pieces to follow.
thanks for looking.

Anytime you think you would like to reserve a painting you see posted before I list it for me:
or if you have any other questions or comments or want to say hello!
All proceeds of sales in 2012 are 100% donations to a non-profit rescue.
peace & cheers!

One Down...a bunch more to go! "Lantern Light"

oil on gallery wrapped canvas
So...finally have some work that is dry enough on their first passes to paint! Started with this one because it was the closest to being done and I needed to have something to post on DAILY PAINTER's GALLERY for Saturday.
That was democratic I think. I understand we have 5 days of RAIN coming so drying time is very slow.
I am thrilled to have things to keep working on for the next wet week!
I have been wanting to paint the lantern and I needed a cat subject so I thought "Siamese" would go nicely here with their dark face and dramatic blue of the eyes against the warm background.  Here you have it.
Cliche' ??? I don't know but I do know I am happy with it.
so if you want to help YOUR FAVORITE RESCUE...make the is 100% donation right to the rescue.
this painting will post tomorrow on the WEB for sale.
and as ever, thanks for your time and attention!

works in progress...

The brushes have been busy!
New Original Oils
Here are a few of the pieces that I have been working on in the Studio.
They are keeping me out of trouble, I think. LOL!

Titles are in progress too! :o)

Moonlight Serenade
collage mixed media
oil over paper on canvas

Circles of Life
oil on Ampersand Panel

Lantern Light
oil on canvas

Boston Bakery
oil on canvas
Should be finishing up a few this has been so humid that the paint dries slowly between sessions...The method behind the madness is to have a few going at once but I got a little carried away with inspiration since painting Emmi (see previous blog post) and there are 17 unfinished pieces around the studio waiting for their turn for the big finish!
All work posted for sale will go 100% to help a rescue do their work.

It's ALL Good...on the easel....

New Work On the Easel

"Watching Me...Watching You, Again"

When I get stuck I did last painting, no inspiration, I turn to Emmi
She always comes through for me.
I have a million images of her and she is so alive in my heart.
This painting came forward and presented itself to me,
A gift from my sweetie...maybe it will be offered for sale to help others,
maybe I will keep is all good.
Leo walked into the studio and said..."It's my Emmi"
yes, yes indeed.
Yesterday it came together...before I started painting in the morning,  it was a horror.
I hated what I was pushing around on that canvas...then I started to paint.
She appeared and won me over.
That is the magic of does not always go in the direction you think it will.
Oh...there are parameters but something dead and mechanical is not my way.
I can't just draw something out and follow it like a plan.
I have to have the alchemy or mystery of what will join me on the canvas. It can't be simply a this, put that has to have some magic to it.
So Thursday I half heartedly grabbed a canvas ...looked through a bunch of Emmi images to stoke the fire and then I just started in.
Reached the snag...hit the wall...looked at 2 days of painting and thought
"well this looks like is not speaking to me at all"
Then ...yesterday we turned the corner and there was the magic.
The Muse came into the studio and I started 6 ...YES, six new pieces. 5 of them I feel will make the grade...1 is iffy. And they are all different.
I am renewed. I am gratified. I feel blessed.
Maybe they will help homeless animals.
We'll see.
It is not, after all, all up to me.
Living like I really mean it,
peace & cheers!

So sorry I did post the in progress pic on the previous post!
This is the finished painting!
You might notice the window signs in the previous post missing ...NOW they are open for business! LOL

Bar & Grille ...a new painting

About the Painting:
I have been working on some new city scenes and this painting below is the first of a series that I have completed and is now available.
One of my favorite subjects to paint has always been old brick buildings and reminders of days gone by. I haven't had the opportunity to do many over the last few years because of the focus on animals and doing portraits and commissions.
Coming back to painting after the hiatus has given me a chance to refocus and refresh my efforts.  I am just loving all the different topics that have been inspiring me.
Hope you like it.

When the Muse Takes Over...

You never know what will present itself!

Sometimes you struggle. Sometimes you work for what seems like days...
then you have those times every Artist knows where you hold the brushes and
something else just seems to take over.

After working all day on some detailed paintings that really have to have somewhat accurate angles and such I was about to stop for the day and then much to my surprise hand reach for a canvas and all of a sudden there was a LION staring back at me.

This is what I mean by the Muse just doing her own thing. I had NO intention of painting this Lion today or any day in the near future. I have a bunch of in-progress paintings of Urban Scenes that I am ambitiously working my way through. I have been thinking about paintings with beaches and children playing... this majestic Lion...this King of the Cats decided he needed to appear here.

So there you have it. He is going to be quite thanks to me!
I am just a cog in the wheel.
I am doing my job by showing up.
as with all my work this year...
it will eventually be offered at 100% donation to a rescue when ready to go.
you just never know...but isn't it nice to be able to still be surprised?

Karma, Drama, Dharma and the Dance...

Huntress Moon
to view and print on demand
all sales will be donated to rescues
So here's the thing...all my work in any form until the end of the year is being donated 100% to non-profit rescues. Rescue is where my heart lies.
If you know me or know my work or my passion that is not news.

The reason for this is that millions of pets are disposed of in this society on a disgustingly regular basis and yet we are such a "pet friendly" society. We spend billions on our pets. We have pets in almost every household.
And yet, and YET millions are put death every year.
SPAY AND NEUTER, people!  can it be said enough?
So you have these dedicated volunteer rescues, and some of the well funded larger ones like Best Friends who really pack a punch in scope and education of the public...but it is the little guy, the grass roots efforts, the "regular"  people in the trenches...that I am compelled to pour my work into.
And this need to paint and share it... is Soul Work for me.
So I am already beyond gratified that ANY work I have done has been able to help even a little.
Last year I was hardly able to give anything to rescues as I was sidelined. But now as I am back in training, while I still work on the old shoulder injury, I am able to create work again that helps. Blessings and joys I can't even describe.
Painting is magical.
Piece of white canvas, a bunch of scruffy tubes of oil color and some brushes...
POW! A painting comes to life. Amazing to me! I still don't understand it myself.
But I do love the magic of art. And then...Alchemy! It becomes more than itself, more than just a pretty can actually transform to help others. It provides green energy to homeless animals or other charities.
While I was "deployed" from my old life and unemployed by the new nature of the "business of healing" and all kinds of internal Drama that ensued from that chapter of my life...You know the part of life where your story starts to sound like a bad country song?...the Karmic light started to shine again.
What do you do?
You shed the old skin and you shake the drama off your karma and you start the dance! I've been dancing and spinning and flying, ever since.
(Insert Snoopy Dancin' image get the picture!)
That is where I find myself today. I am so thankful I have the Muse back in my corner, I am thankful that the old life is behind me, I know I have a chance to still do for others in a way that is practical and gives a little ease to bad situations and comes from my own hand. Offered lovingly.
I am an Artist.
We always wish we could do more. There is so much need. If everyone does their little part then it all comes together in a much bigger way than the parts of ourselves.
That, to me, adds up to hopeful.
And isn't it wonder-filled to begin from a hopeful place?
I am working on all kinds of new art with new enthusiasm and painting subjects and different things I have not done in years. So freeing and so much fun.
Join in the Dance.
Stay Tuned!
Peace and cheers,

PREVIEW...and more!

Studio Updates!

The first two paintings are new again...I should say I went back and did a second look and reworked these two paintings. I never gave up on them, I always liked them and they didn't seem to interest anyone.

So...back to the easel they went and I like them even more now. If they find a home with someone else ...even better!

they are also listed on my web site

The last painting (see below) is On The Easel and is a work in progress.

My latest Angel / Rainbow Bridge painting is in the works

this oil is 11x14

and as yet to be completed but you can see where I am headed.

The puppy is a mixed breed and represents all puppies who end up in the arms of angels.

The Angel is still showing herself to me.

I am still not sure what I am going to do with the background yet.

Anyway...wanted to share this with you.

I may make this into prints when done.

I am also working on some mixed media paintings that are fun and interesting and have CATS in them.

So the work continues and I am ever grateful for your interest in my work.
