The Reason

THIS PAINTING HAS SOLD!

(Meet Harrison below)
***
Today that is just what I did...I went wading into the story of a Dalmatian boy
who desperately needs help.
***
I was thinking about something the other day...I heard someone on TV say "There is a REASON why she is here in this life..." it was in reference to a very sad situation that the person has been born into, but the idea was that even in adversity there is a REASON for her being here greater than the difficulties.
***
I think there is a reason I can paint a bit. Why I was drawn to do it...it came out of nowhere as these things do. It was an innate ability that I had from childhood. It was the way I was wired I guess. No one in my family had the interest or inclination to make art.
***
It's a nice past time...you could do it quietly at home and never show it. You don't have to succeed or fail.  But there was a REASON for me to have this knack. I believe it was to use it in a way that made it so much more than itself. Art that helps. So you need to put it out there. And while I was never going to be a "master" or create world famous art I was going to find a way to do my art my own way and love it or leave it, use it to help animals in need. If a painting resonates with someone it ends up helping and that to me is success in spades!
***
THE REASON:
So that brings me to this painting above.
I am offering it for sale with the entire amount going to help "HARRISON"
he is a Dalmatian that was found injured in Houston TX June 17th , put in a shelter and a message was sent out as "Urgent Medical Rescue Needed" it was for Rescue Only to spring him from the shelter and get him medical help.
***
Expensive medical help as Harrison has multiple fractures in his pelvis and a dislocated hip.
He was pulled from that shelter by someone who helps rescue but is NOT "a rescue" so he was given help by DALMATIAN RESCUE of SOUTHERN FLORIDA. They helped make arrangements to champion this dog's cause and get him some funding to help with his upcoming surgery.
Many hands can make miracles happen.
DRSF has set up a CHIP-IN to help him. If everyone could donate the price of a cup of fancy coffee or ANY amount they can afford it would help with this vet expense.
Or it can be sent directly to the vet.
Information is all on the Dalmatian Rescue Site.
Please pass this info on to anyone who might be interested in helping.

This painting was presented as a work in progress last week, now it is ready to go.
The colors are stunning in person. I am not quite sure the monitor is capturing them very well.
It is an ultra smooth canvas mounted panel. So easy to frame in a standard size with shallow depth!
I will be posting this for ART HELPING ANIMALS on
DAILY PAINTER's GALLERY tomorrow, June 9th.
If you want to snag it before it posts just email me.
I enjoy painting cats and hope this kitty helps some cats in need.
TABBY'S PLACE is an awesome rescue and deals with some medically challenged cats.  You can visit their site here:
Tabby's Place Link
they do wonderful work.

Thanks so much for helping artist's help homeless animals.

2012 ...A Whole New Year

My first chance to create an update here and I just wanted to say that 2012 has started off with a bang ....pretty much continuing where we left off from the previous year.

Life is hanging in the air right now with some unfinished business that is taking up my energy to complete and involving other family members with issues.
In other words, putting out fires as new challenges arise and keeping my artwork and my involvement with RESCUE on the back burner for now.

I am truly hoping that by APRIL I will have a good sense of where I stand with life in general and what I will be able to do to begin my return to the passion and purpose I was once so happily involved in. I do miss painting and the freedom of creative expression.

So please visit the site www.carolchretien.com if you are interested in PRINTS ....all the images in the print pages will have the full price donated to RESCUE.

Please stay in touch via email if you want to drop an Hello my way. I am always able to be reached at carolchretien@aol.com

All my best to you in 2012 and hope to be able to show some new work in the coming year!

August ~ Dog Days

One of my old favorite Beagle paintings.
***

The thing about August is that you know what comes later!

For me, it is always the time of anticipation of things to come...new times, new places, new ideas, new plans.

I think it harks back to being a school kid when September was the true start of the new year. I know that was a long time ago but it is so ingrained in me.

Also, I am all about autumn so that adds an energy of spirit to my thoughts.

So as I plan for the future and the re-opening of my studio this fall I look back and see where I've come from and think about where I want to go.

***

One big change for me will be painting without my studio companion, Emmi.

Something tells me that she will somehow be with me.

It is an adjustment for sure even though.

I have a few things I have to do for behind the scenes prep as I gear up to start.

It is a little exciting starting over...and that is what it feels like...so we will see where we can take this.

My goal remains to help as many homeless animals as I can with my artwork.

I am looking forward to what lies ahead.

STAY TUNED...

as always

ALL MY BEST!

Carol

Stripes for a Change!... a new direction?

Last week it was SPOTS all over the place...

and I had also started a piece with a little different pattern. It changes it up a little and it is a lot of fun for me. So...stripes not spots today...while the other works in progress dry a little more before the next pass.
Painting still life is a meditative endeavor for me and maybe that is why I enjoy it so much. The oddity is that it is all a two dimensional practice no matter what subject... so it would seem strange that the subject lends itself to different experience for me as I paint.
I appreciate the magic of applying colored medium to flat white surface and getting lost in the patterns. I love being an artist!

Like Honey...

To the bees...

Like Honey To The Bees
10x10
oil on canvas
CAROL CHRETIEN
****
I walked into my studio today with my spine straight and my resolve intact...
The Muse walked in behind me, dropped her travel bags and pushed up her sleeves.

She said, " Lets get to it." ...and we did.

Two hours later...and I am here to tell you it was only about 20 minutes in my internal clock, we have the painting you see here. I have a few details to add when dry enough but I am thrilled with the start of 2010 and my painting efforts. There is no place in my life that TIME is suspended like when I am at the easel. The "Zone" does indeed exist.

First time I have put oil paint brush to canvas in '010.

I feel like I just let out a LONG held breath. Yes, this is breathing to me.

OK...the nuts and bolts: This is my rendition of a beautiful cat that is up for adoption at RIMROCK HUMANE SOCIETY in Montana.
She is waiting for that forever home. Her name is "Honey" I will be posting this for sale on the ART HELPING ANIMALS ART BLOG as soon as it is done.

If you are interested in it before I list it please know 20% goes right to this rescue.
It will be 125.00 with free domestic shipping!

please email me: carolchretien@aol.com to reserve it. Once it is gone, it is gone for good.

Back to the studio and back to work.
