July 1st! Follow-up To WIPs...
WILLING HEARTS DALMATIAN RESCUE, an official Art Helping Animals supported charity.
An additional donation went out to Montgomery Humane Society as thanks for the use of the ref image of the Dal puppy in foster care who inspired the painting "The Little Dipper."
Both of these models were once abandoned Dalmatians who now live in wonderful loving homes.

(Oreo)

My approach to using reference images for paintings for rescue is always interesting to me.
I often have no plan to do a particular painting and then I see a photo (especially of a homeless animal) and it justs suggests a scene, a feeling or a moment in time that I can create around it.
Sometimes people send me images and give me permission to use them if & when the inspiration strikes me. I just never know when it will click.
The painting above of Oreo, a dalmatian recently rescued and starting Foster Care, getting him ready for his forever home, was one of a series of images that showed his first day in a home. Oreo never made it as a foster dog...he was adopted by the family who wanted to foster him!
The image of him tired and resting in the back seat of their car on the first day just suggested the painting above to me. While it was not a dead-0n portrait of Oreo, the ref image gave me the information to translate into the finished work. The background is completely from my imagination and it gave me the title.

THOSE GOLDEN DAYS
12x12
oil on canvas
CAROL CHRETIEN
***
This is the update of one of the latest paintings for rescue.
I have finally been able to work on the ones I started last week. I have been painting beach scenes in hopes of the sunshine returning to our New England area. We have some today and it is glorious. The same feeling as the expression and smile of this dog at the beach.
the model was Mattie Mae a friend of Art Helping Animals artist Stella Violano.
She was my inspiration for the work. I love her happy face.

Small works of Art ...new series
as listed below in the blog.... I have started the new series of small 5x7 oils that are painted in simple quiet palettes that offer a reflective feel to bring the viewer, and hopefully the collector, into that space where a connection is made to the work presented.
The subjects are also kept to a minimal number and arrangement to allow a larger space in a smaller format.
The first two, WISHING ON THE MOON and CRYSTAL VISIONS are now listed on Ebay with 20% to the designated charity (as always) and they are either up for auction or at a buy now price.
A new piece in the series is coming soon....stay tuned.

If you could read my mind......
Rescues caring for the ever increasing population of homeless pets are facing the same struggles with the economy as the rest of us. We will all be digging deeper this year with the cost of living rising every week. Buying art from ART HELPING ANIMALS artists is one way to be sure rescue gets a donation but... you can also directly help at your own local shelter!
As an artist, I am happy to help through art. My donations range from 20% to 100% with every sale and also include donations of art and prints of past work for charity auctions.
ART HELPING ANIMALS artists have donated over $ 50,000.00 to rescue in 2.5 yrs!
If you are planning to purchase animal art or other pieces of art and my work interests you...please feel confident that a homeless animal will also benefit from the sale.
Thanks for all the support in the past and I look forward to providing new pieces for rescue in the future as well.

Cat & Roses - First Look - On the Easel
This has been a busy painting weekend which is fine with
me.
After a strange week...the full moon probably helped that
out a bit...it got down to 2 days to concentrate on painting.
This new oil that sits on the easel is a work in progress that is inspired by the idea of "shabby chic"...the soft colors and the full blown roses...this painting comes from my muse to the canvas. One of those paintings that is swirling about in the back of your mind whispering to you to "paint me!"
So I did...I started it today. It was so enjoyable to watch it come out of my head and through the brush onto the canvas board.
It will be offered for sale soon with a percentage to charity.
There are a few other things coming along too, still life and some new Dalmatian paintings.
Check back later....and enjoy what is left of the weekend!
peace and cheers!

Welcomes on different planes!
Goofy, silly and full of fun! This young beagle boy is ready for action, so bring your hiking shoes, tennis ball or doggy playmate! Ren is a sweet happy social young boy -he knows some of his basic commands, loves to ride in the car and adores going for walks.
He will need to learn some of the finer points of living in a home (house training, not counter surfing) but he's ready to go , and eager to please.
If you have an active home looking for a fun loving dog - look at Ren!
OldDog Haven is a very small group of people with a network of foster homes and supporters. Our goal is to provide a loving, safe home for senior dogs abandoned at this stage of their lives. When we have room, and the means, we take these dogs into our homes; if possible we adopt out those with a reasonable life-expectancy. We care for the rest as long as they have good quality of life. In addition, we try to assist owners in finding new homes for their senior dogs through our website and referrals.

All in a Day's Work & the Emmi Saga.
Who would think there is so much NON-PAINTING time that is spent on the business of art?
It seems like it never ends and it is not the fun part of what I do.
Today is the day to get back into the studio and finish up some pending work.
That is AFTER I get the pieces of art ready to ship.
Life got in the way with a little cat with Thyroid issues...not fun have a little one so sick.
Now that she is eating again I will get back to work that is piling up quickly.
Emmi has an appointment on March 3rd at a vet specialist in RI.
We hope it will cure her thyroid problem so she can enjoy her remaining years!
She is our little character!
