Should be finishing up a few this week...it has been so humid that the paint dries slowly between sessions...The method behind the madness is to have a few going at once but I got a little carried away with inspiration since painting Emmi (see previous blog post) and there are 17 unfinished pieces around the studio waiting for their turn for the big finish!

All work posted for sale will go 100% to help a rescue do their work.

When the Muse Takes Over...

You never know what will present itself!

DETAIL VIEW
UNTITLED WORK IN PROGRESS
CAROL CHRETIEN
***
Sometimes you struggle. Sometimes you work for what seems like days...
then you have those times every Artist knows where you hold the brushes and
something else just seems to take over.

After working all day on some detailed paintings that really have to have somewhat accurate angles and such I was about to stop for the day and then much to my surprise ....my hand reach for a canvas and all of a sudden there was a LION staring back at me.

This is what I mean by the Muse just doing her own thing. I had NO intention of painting this Lion today or any day in the near future. I have a bunch of in-progress paintings of Urban Scenes that I am ambitiously working my way through. I have been thinking about paintings with beaches and children playing...
BUT...today this majestic Lion...this King of the Cats decided he needed to appear here.

So there you have it. He is going to be quite wonderful...no thanks to me!
I am just a cog in the wheel.
I am doing my job by showing up.
***
as with all my work this year...
it will eventually be offered at 100% donation to a rescue when ready to go.
***
you just never know...but isn't it nice to be able to still be surprised?
HA HA!
truly.

Organized Chaos?

The Organized Chaos... that is my work corner of my studio.
Some things that are currently "works in progress" to share in their earliest stages can be seen below...

The official count is 8 in progress pieces of art but 4 are very near completed.
The following are in the Ugly Stages of near-new. Very raw but it gives a glimpse of how I start if you are interested in my process.

Year of the Cat series # 3 ...MARCH "In the Wind"
*********

The next two are for our ART HELPING ANIMALS
September Focus on Rescue

we will be highlighting
Saluki Rescue STOLA

*****

And lastly...the newest Dachshund Rescue painting in the works
with "Oscar" once again as my furry Muse.
His mom (Pam) keeps me inspired by sending me reference images that I keep on file for that moment when a Doxie is just the right note for helping rescue!

a LONG way to go as you can see.
And it is all good... as I work to wrap them up and look forward to some new plans for Fall,
that will include a special piece for Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay for their
yearly OCTOBER event.

STAY TUNED!

August - New Month, New Work...in progress

This first piece is the inspired by photos I took of a friend's dogs and this is the "blocking in stage" of the first pass. I will be offering this oil painting to help one of our Art Helping Animals supported rescues. This husky is so beautifully marked. She is a very shy girl and that gave me the working title:
SHADOW GIRL
RESERVED
~~~~~~~
FIRST LIGHT OF FALL
This new Dalmatian piece is all about temperature and seasonal color along with pattern and light.
I will list this one for SAVE THE DALMATIANS one of our Dalmatian rescues that Art Helping Animals supports through art sales.
~~~~~~~~
UP DATE ....
Adding pieces of the gate to this one .... designing as I go.
Will be adjusting here and there before it is done.

You have to enjoy the journey and not just the destination in creative projects.
I do enjoy sharing the process...hopefully you enjoy watching the paintings develop.
STAY TUNED!

Busy Days...Studio Time.

Two new works in progress....Sneak Peek at What's On the Easel.

Life is GOOD!

I have been at the easel and loving it. The best day is the day I get in there early and lose track of time. If it wasn't for my dalmatian, Lizzie, I would never know what time it was. She is busy most of the day reminding me when it is time to eat.
The new things on the easel are fun pieces... one is the next in the BIG CAT series...White Tiger, this will be the 5th painting in 10x10 format in the series.
The second oil here is one I have for a painting challenge with the Artist Colony ...the topic for May is Daffy Dolls.
Seeing that the only toys we have here are Lizzie's I am painting her Lion and Funny Bunny. She has a great selection of colorful toys to choose from.
Stay tuned!
