About the painting:

This piece is another of multiple glazes of color to achieve the depth and glow of light. A bit of drama in this Moonscape that draws you in and hopefully takes you to a mystical reverie.

One of the good things about having been away from painting for the last year was that it gave me a renewed perspective about just what it was that I enjoyed so much about my favorite medium, and my approach to painting.

I enjoy taking the time now to glaze and relax with the work. Live with it a bit

and sit back and change a passage here or tweak a stroke there.

And color...there is nothing I like better than playing with color and light.

So if this piece of art appeals to you and you want to have it...

let me know.

PREVIEW....White Rose ~ a new original oil

WHITE ROSE

SOLDAlign Center

8x8

oil on gallery wrapped canvas

CAROL CHRETIEN

***

My first offering for ART HELPING ANIMALS for 2012 is my vision of the white rose that symbolizes the Spiritual.

This particular piece is a small one painted in many thin glazes to allow the illusion of light to come through representing backlighting.

It captures the impression of luminosity and a delicate layering of petals.

The canvas is wrapped around the stretchers and the sides are painted. It can be framed or displayed as is.

*************
Today I started the day with gathering some refs of BONES beagles up for adoption. They have several wonderful beagles in foster care they are preparing for their "forever homes"...2 beagles in particular caught my eye and I thought they would inspire some new work. "DEBO" and "BO" are there names.
As I was printing out the images I was thinking of my friend Pam, who is a BONES volunteer, and a few seconds later I received an email with a batch of images from the yearly BONES BEAGLE BASH.
There were a bunch of DEBO in the batch and I suddenly had my paintings taking shape in my mind.
I asked Pam if she could give me some more background about Debo as we hope he can get adopted to his own home and I want to tell his story.
SHE got an email from his foster mom telling her that not 10 minutes before she was just talking about his situation with the wonderful person who originally pulled him from the shelter he was found in.
So today was a day of hopefully VERY good vibes for Debo.
These are 2 works in progress that will be ready to go soon.
***
Both paintings are inspired by Debo and his information can be found
here:

If you see paintings here in FIRST LOOK and love them,
please reserve them for purchase.
When they are gone...they are gone.
Thanks so much for helping homeless animals with art!

Wrapping up some loose ends....

....before the next season begins.
You may have seen some of these in progress and now they are pretty much completed (with the exception of the Dalmatian, Mercury, in the center) which is soon to be done, just need a little drying time between sessions.
The studio is humming along today and nothing is getting in the way.
"FOLEY"

"Portrait of Foley"
Is a gift to the Friends of Bristol Animal Shelter who do work in my local area.
They lost their beloved mascot unexpectedly earlier this year.
My philosophy is that Art is Therapeutic and helps heal hearts.
I hope they can place the painting in an area of their shelter that does just that.
***

"MERCURY"
This painting is for a friend who is missing her wonderful Mercury.
He passed over the Rainbow Bridge recently and is in the best company you could ask for.
I have a little more to do to finish this up but made some real progress today and thought I would share it.
There needs to be one more pass to it to finish it up and be able to send it off.
I met Mercury when he was a youngster and rescued by a loving family.
He got along great with my Lizzie and it was my pleasure to be able to meet him in person.
***
"CLEOPATRA"
This painting was one of the prizes donated to the JRT fundraiser.
Over the years I have done many "win a custom painting" fundraiser.

I will list this one for SAVE THE DALMATIANS one of our Dalmatian rescues that Art Helping Animals supports through art sales.

This is the update of one of the latest paintings for rescue.
I have finally been able to work on the ones I started last week. I have been painting beach scenes in hopes of the sunshine returning to our New England area. We have some today and it is glorious. The same feeling as the expression and smile of this dog at the beach.
the model was Mattie Mae a friend of Art Helping Animals artist Stella Violano.
She was my inspiration for the work. I love her happy face.

She's A Jersey Girl ...and she is adopted!

SOLD
She's A Jersey Girl

I was planning on listing this painting as finally completed and now available... In the meantime it sold.
The BEST NEWS is she was adopted after I had decided to paint her, coincidence?

I had a run on beagle adoptions from BONES a while back where they got adopted as I was painting away! LOL I was a lucky charm they said! :o)

I did something different for this painting...I did a study of the painting first.
In actuality...I started it, got into it and then noticed a big defect in the weave of the canvas that was not something I would sell to anyone. But I went ahead and finished the first draft (not for sale!) I almost never to preliminary drawings...sometimes a few "thumbnail sketches to work out the composition...but never a pre-painting a painting, it is just not my way.

What I learned from that unexpected exercise was painting Tori Jem the second time was really much easier. I knew her by then. I also enlarged the canvas size and pushed her back so you could see more of her and widened the view of the ocean. So it was a great lesson.

I know many artists practice this regularly but painting small pieces for charity usually is pretty straight forward and I dive right into the piece always starting with the eyes.

Today this piece sold for charity but I did want to show it finished. Now if the other in-progress paintings in my studio could just dry a bit....I could finish a few more!

Donation to GREYHOUND FRIENDS OF NEW JERSEY honoring Tori Jem is on the way as promised!
